Everything you wanted to know about getting boozy in the kitchen.
Boozy Bourbon Chefs is a bourbon-inspired cooking brand created by Jeff Crowe and Todd Finley — two Kentucky friends bonded by a love of good food and great bourbon. Jeff is the head chef and recipe developer, bringing years of culinary experience and a philosophy that delicious, beautiful food doesn't have to be hard. Todd is the creative director, shaping the brand's visual identity and connection to Kentucky's bourbon culture. Together, they share approachable recipes, repeatable cocktails, and cooking content designed for the home cook.
It's Jeff's guiding principle and the entire foundation of BBC. Great food — the kind that looks and tastes like it came from a restaurant — doesn't require a culinary degree, exotic ingredients, or hours of complicated technique. It requires good ingredients, a little confidence, and clear instructions. Every BBC recipe is tested to make sure a home cook can follow it and get restaurant-level results. If a technique can't be explained in two sentences, we simplify it until it can.
Jeff's rule is simple: we only share cocktails you can make consistently. If a drink requires seven specialty ingredients, a blowtorch, or a technique you can't repeat at home, it's not a repeatable drink — and it won't be on our site. Every BBC cocktail uses bourbon you already have, a few staples from your bar, and takes under five minutes. The goal is a drink that tastes incredible the first time you make it and the hundredth time.
For cooking, a mid-range Kentucky straight bourbon works perfectly — you don't need to cook with your most expensive bottle. Look for something with good caramel and vanilla notes, as those flavors transfer beautifully into glazes and sauces. For cocktails, especially the Old Fashioned where there's nothing to hide behind, use something you'd happily sip neat. The quality of your bourbon matters most in drinks where it's the star.
No — that's the whole point. Every recipe on the site is rated by difficulty, and the vast majority are rated "Easy." Most take under 30 minutes. We break down each step clearly, include Jeff's tips for getting it right, and tell you exactly what to look for at each stage. If you can follow instructions and have basic kitchen tools, you can make every recipe on this site.
You can, but the results will be different — bourbon's caramel, vanilla, and oak notes are what give BBC recipes their signature flavor. Rye can work in cocktails for a spicier profile, and dark rum can substitute in some glazes. But we designed these recipes for bourbon, and that's what we recommend for the best results.
